Carson Valley Medical Center is offering a 10-week trauma support group beginning at 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. each week starting Wednesday and running through June 29.

The group is for adult spouses and family members of loved ones who are living with trauma. Insurance will be billed for the cost of the program and financial assistance may be available for those who qualify.

“Supporting a partner or loved one in healing from trauma can be complex and difficult in many ways,” said clinic director Erin Dudley. “Many groups in the community focus on people who have experienced trauma, but there may be little support for the spouses and family members of these people. Our goal through this group is to provide support, resources and education on the essential role that spouses and family members can play in supporting recovery from trauma while maintaining their own mental and emotional health.

People will not be turned away based on their ability to pay for services.

Those interested in participating in the group should register early to expedite insurance formalities and registration.

Topics covered in the group include what is trauma, loving someone with trauma, cognitive distortions, emotional regulation, mindfulness, boundaries, and self-care.
