Talented apprentices honored at Swansea Bay Construction Support Group Awards

Talented young apprentices from John Weaver and ASW Property Services were the big winners at a construction awards event spanning Swansea Bay held last week which also raised over £2,000 for local charity Hands Up for Downs.

The 2022 Swansea Bay Construction Support Group Awards Ceremony took place on July 7 at the Village Hotel in Swansea, to support and recognize the achievements of new entrants, apprentices and future construction industry talent across the region. South Wales.

The ceremony, which was hosted by Swansea legend Kev Johns and included a three-course meal, was also part of an overall aim to promote the image of the construction industry and highlight the benefits to consider the construction industry as a career path, and what skills individuals can benefit from in this occupation.

The evening saw awards presented to nominated apprentices from member companies of the Swansea Bay Construction Support Group, including: JG Hale Construction; ASW Real Estate Services; CJ Construction; John Weaver; Andrew Scott; Craftsman floor; and Green Hat Consulting. There were also awards for Best General Apprentice and Best Technical Apprentice, won by Kim Smitham of John Weaver and Dalton Brown of ASW Property Services.

The awards ceremony was sponsored by Alpha Safety Training, PCR Global and Barry Training Services, who presented awards to all of the evening’s winners, as well as Councilor Andrea Lewis, Joint Deputy Chief and Cabinet Member , Climate Change and Service Transformation, Swansea Council. The event included a raffle and auction to raise money for the Hands Up for Downs charity.

The Swansea Bay Construction Support Group (SBCSG) is a collaboration of various contractors, located in the Neath, Port Talbot and Swansea area. It is a non-profit, grant-funded organization committed to providing cost-effective training and development opportunities for its members.

During the evening, over £2,000 was raised for local charity Hands Up for Downs through an auction and raffle. This support group brings together families, parents, caregivers and children with Down syndrome to share advice and support and, as a group, ensure that children with Down syndrome have access to services. that they need.

“The awards night was a fantastic success – it brought together young talent to be recognized for their hard work and dedication to the industry. We need to celebrate these achievements and support their journey. Our apprentices are just as responsible as our fully trained staff members to keep our customers’ homes and buildings safe, and we are grateful to them for choosing the construction industry as their career path.

“The Swansea Bay Building Support Group Awards have allowed us not only to recognize the hard working and dedicated apprentices who work for our members, but have also allowed us to spread the word and raise awareness of the opportunities available. to other young people who are evaluating their choice. »

“I am absolutely thrilled to have won this award which has surprised me to say the least. I have loved the whole experience so far; Gower College and John Weaver have been amazing. I have a great mentor and I work with some great people there. I’m so proud of myself that I finally did this and I know my kids and my family are too.

Winner Dalton Brown said:

“I was very proud to be nominated, but to win the 2022 Top Technical Apprentice award was amazing. I am so grateful for the opportunities and support ASW Property Services has provided me over the past five years. I am now very excited to see how I can grow within the company and where my future in construction will take me.
