South High School caretaker named support staff of the year

FARGO, ND (Valley News Live) – South High School Principal Custodian Joel Cross has been named Fargo Public Schools Support Staff of the Year.

Cross served on the maintenance crew at South High School for 15 years. First hired part-time in 2007, Cross was hired full-time in March 2008.

Cross manages the maintenance staff and oversees the upkeep and operation of the building. He has played several roles over the years, including caretaker, assistant engineer, assistant chief engineer, assistant evening engineer and now senior caretaker.

“While stretched with limited staff, he is more than willing to do what it takes to ensure students, staff and guests have access to a clean and functional building,” said Fargo Public Schools in a statement. “His appointees say he never complains, always shows up promptly and is ready to help them with whatever tasks need to be done. He is described as very conscientious, organized, humble and His drive to exceed expectations over the years hasn’t been limited to his maintenance duties, he’s enthusiastically agreed to grill at seniors’ picnics and school DJ events. .

Cross follows Brenda Fisher, District Office Human Resources Absence Manager, as the Support Staff of the Year winner. The Support Staff of the Year award has been presented within the district since 2014. The honor is a regular award given as part of the district’s annual staff recognition program. The district also recognizes a Teacher of the Year and an Administrator of the Year each year.
