By Les Pierces
Dana Brach was named Nut Swamp Elementary School Support Worker of the Year. She worked at Lincroft Elementary for 21 years before transferring to Nut Swamp three years ago.
She is currently a paraprofessional in Michelle Miles’ kindergarten class. His main activities are to help students with their class work and redirect them to keep them focused on tasks and lessons.
Supervising the lunch period is another component of his daily routine. “I open lots of milk cartons and ketchup packets every day,” Brach said.
She was born in Michigan and moved to Middletown when she was in seventh grade and attended Thompson Middle School and Middletown High School. Brach attended Fairleigh Dickinson University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing.
She and her husband Lee recently celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary. They have two daughters, Courtney (32) and Carly (30). Both attended Lincroft, Thompson and Middletown High School South. They resided in Lincroft for 28 years before moving to Eatontown two years ago.
In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, watching football and baseball, and spending days at the beach. An avid reader, she readily admits: “I’m still working on a book. Brach is known to be a huge fan of Bruce Springsteen.
“I love working at Nut Swamp School because I have 21 of the most amazing, curious, and fun kindergarten kids,” Brach said. “It was wonderful to see them become ‘almost’ independent first graders. I work with a great group of people at Nut Swamp, and I’m so lucky to be able to come to work here every day!
Nut Swamp manager Neil Leone said: “Ms. Brach is a beloved and respected staff member who goes out of her way to create the best learning environment for her students. Ms. Brach is a team player who can always be counted on to step in where the building needs her.
