Council support staff salaries rise in the era of the WFH

The demand for experienced consulting support staff who can get started while working from home is driving wages up, according to the Profusion Group human resources team.

While most salary ranges on boards have remained relatively stable during the pandemic era, Profusion Salary Advice Guide 2021 shows that customer service manager / associate advisor candidates with three to five years of experience are in the salary range of $ 85,000 to $ 110,000 (excluding superannuation and bonuses), an increase marked against the range of $ 75,000 to $ 100,000 identified in the guide for the previous year.

According to Profusion director Chris Gordon, the rapid shift to working from home has put pressure on consulting practices to pay more for staff that have been around for a while and don’t require as much onboarding work.

Without being able to sit down with someone and train them, practice directors prefer to pay someone a lot more if they have enough experience to start with minimal guidance.

“The counseling practices really favor experienced support staff so they can get started quickly,” says Gordon Professional planner.

The Client Service Manager / Associate Advisor roles with only one to two years of experience saw their group grow to the top, from $ 55,000 to $ 75,000 to $ 55,000 to $ 80,000.

Perth-based recruiter Simon Burke agrees the premium on experienced staff has increased dramatically since the start of the work from home era.

“I call them plug-ins,” says Burke. “Planners are asking a lot more for a plug-in where they can recruit someone who will be up and running immediately with minimal investment. Really, this is just a week of specific systems training and off you go.

In February of this year, Burke noted that the market for experienced support staff had tightened, with the going rate for customer service managers rising from $ 65,000 to $ 80,000.

A trend that is developing now, he observes, is that experienced support staff work as independent independent consultants.

“They put up their own shingle and charge $ 40 to $ 70 an hour, while still being able to work from home and have that balance,” he says. “Sometimes they can work 10 hours a week for a long time or just work full time for two months if there is a tidal wave of work in one place.

“It’s good for them and good for the advisers because they don’t have a lot of associated personnel costs like pensions and insurance,” he continues. “They only pay for the work done. “
